Cultured pearls meaning not ‘naturally conceived’ pearls, they are the result of human being’s intervention of the natural process. Both seawater and freshwater pearls can be cultured, which formation is nearly the same. There are a couple of differences in freshwater cultivation and seawater pearl cultivation. To culture freshwater pearls, the mollusc’s shell is gently opened, and small silts are made in the mantle tissue. Live mantle tissue from another mollusc is inserted into these silts. The freshwater pearls formation takes place in the freshwater while seawater pearls’ take place in the sea water or salt water; the freshwater pearls formation involves mussels while the seawater pearls formation occurs in oysters. The famous Akoya pearls are seawater pearls—they are named after the seam they come from: ‘Akoya’, we’ve amazingly found in the market some jeweller tells customers they offer ‘Akoya freshwater pearls’, we’d suggest you run a mile from them!

Of course, the pearls occurring naturally in the wild are the crown jewels of the pearl world, however due to the matured technology of pearls cultivation, today’s cultured pearls are almost as good as the naturally conceived ones. Also, because of the worldwide water’s pollution, the majority pearl come from the cultivations.

Cultured pearl necklaces are more accessible and affordable than ever. Although the pearls are cultured, every single pearl are still different, at the end of the day, every single pearl is still different individual life! Lustrous Cultured Pearl necklaces adopt high quality and lustrous cultured pearls and are stringed in the traditional way to secure every pearl. We use all the different shapes and types of pearls as well as all the amazing colours! You can have a traditional ivory one or a fashionable chocolate one or even a vivid bright one to suit your different outfit or occasions.

Necklaces are also referred to as neckwear; and are one of the most important jewellery accessories to enhance your style. Pearl Necklaces has a very long history originating from when pearls were first featured in jewellery and now has widened its definition due to the modernisation of jewellery making and the diversity of the material. Because pearls were once the exclusive province of nobles and royals (and later wealthy socialites), necklace lengths were often chosen to create the most impressive display of opulence and wealth. Thus, pearl ropes, expecially in layered multiples, would signify the power of an Indian maharajah, the political clout of a ruler such as Elizabeth I, or the affluence of an industrialist's wife. More was better.

There were favored styles for various eras, such as the multistrand "dog collar" during Victorian times, opera and rope lengths for flappers in the Roaring Twenties, or the classic princess length for well-turned-out debutantes in the 1950s.

Traditionally, there are 6 types of pearl necklaces divided by their different lengths -- Collar (12-13"), Choker (14-16"), Princess (17-19"), Matinee (20-24"), Opera (28-34") and Rope (Over 45") -- however in today's modern world, some traditional pearl necklaces names are not being used very often any more while some new pearl necklace names appeared.

Lustrous Jewellery divides Pearl Necklace into three categories:Lariat, Long Necklaces, and Short Necklaces. Our Pearl Lariat can be single strand or double strands which both are highly versatile. Both single strand and double-strand Lariat can be worn as multiple-strand choker or be tied or folded loosely at the front. Lariats have been in high fashion in the last year or so due to the versatility and style. It requires no effort to suit both office time and party time! Lustrous Jewellery’s Lariat incorporates high fashion with classic elements which make sure you will get that ‘wow’ factor that won’t go out of fashion!

Lustrous Long Necklaces can normally be worn as a single strand long necklace with or without a knot at the front or as a double strand necklace wrapping around the neck twice. Long Necklaces give you the same casual style of a Lariat in a more subtle style. Some of our Long Necklaces such as ‘blue & deep pink large baroque pearls and crystal chip organza ribbon necklaces’ have been a huge success. They can be worn in the office and are just ideal for dinner/party dresses!

Lustrous Short Necklaces are between 16” to 20”, including both single strand and multiple-strand necklaces, incorporating a rich variety of type and colour of pearls. Like our Lariat and Long Necklaces, many of the Short Necklaces combine gemstones and semi-precious stones to a spectacular effect.
